
Through "Merck Foundation More Than a Mother" initiative, Merck Foundation has collaborated with Global Fertility experts to establish a platform of Fertility and Embryology specialist in Africa and Asia.
“Advanced ART & Fertility and Assisted Reproduction & Embryology Specialists Training Program” was launched in 2016 as part of Merck Foundation "More Than a Mother". Under this program, Merck Foundation has been providing hands-on practical training to candidates from Africa and Asia, in partnership with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), India; Indira IVF Hospitals, India and Indonesian Reproductive Science Institute (IRSI), Indonesia.
Through this program, Merck Foundation is making history in many African countries where they never had Fertility Specialists or Specialized Fertility Clinics before "Merck Foundation More Than a Mother" intervention, by training the first Fertility Specialists and Embryologists such as in Burundi, Chad, Guinea, Liberia, Malawi, Niger, Sierra Leone, The Gambia. Merck Foundation supported the training of the staff of the first public IVF centers in Ethiopia, Guinea, Myanmar, Niger, Rwanda and Burundi.
So far, Merck Foundation has provided more than 365+ Scholarships for clinical and practical training to Fertility Specialists and Embryologists, and more than 440+ Scholarships provided for PG Diploma and Master Degree in Sexual and Reproductive Medicine, Clinical Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Women's Health, Biotechnology of Human Assisted Reproduction & Embryology, Urology, Laparoscopic Surgical Skills for doctors from 42 countries across Africa and Asia including Bangladesh, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Cote D'IVOIRE, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo Brazzaville, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Mauritius, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Niger, Philippines, Russia, Rwanda, Sao Tome, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Togo, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia & Zimbabwe.
